Stephen L. Roof concentrates his arbitration practice in the areas of complex commercial cases, aviation and aerospace, intellectual property law, and international law. He a respected senior neutral in these fields. With his extensive background and knowledge of the aviation and technology industries, Mr. Roof has mediated and arbitrated a broad range of complex commercial cases, including many aviation and intellectual property matters. His legal work in the republics of the former Soviet Union has also uniquely qualified him to mediate and arbitrate matters involving international law.
Mr. Roof graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, and earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1983. Mr. Roof is an officer of the International Bar Association and an Adjunct professor of Law at the University of Miami School of Law. He was recently appointed to the ABA Task Force on Early Dispute Resolution, and serves on the Air and Space Committee of the American Bar Association and the International Committee of the ABA’s Section on Dispute Resolution. In addition, Mr. Roof serves on the Aviation Committee of the Inter-American Bar Association, the Aviation Committee, International Law Committee, and Business Law Committee of the Florida Bar, and the Dade Aviation Alliance. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and the Dade County, Federal, American and Inter-American Bar Associations.
Mr. Roof served as a legislative aide to Congressman Robert Krueger in the United States House of Representatives, and subsequently worked in the Legal Department at the Organization of American States in Washington, DC.
